Mayor Donna Buchinski of Falher Honoured with Alberta Municipalities Award of Excellence
Falher, Alberta, August 14, 2024– The Town of Falher is proud to announce that Mayor Donna Buchinski has been recognized with the esteemed Alberta Municipalities Award of Excellence. The award will be officially presented during the 2024 Alberta Municipalities Annual Convention and Trade Show in Red Deer, a gathering that celebrates outstanding municipal professionals across Alberta.
Mayor Buchinski’s award is a testament to her more than 25 years of dedicated service and outstanding civic leadership in the Town of Falher. Since her initial election as a Councillor in 1997, Donna has played a pivotal role in shaping the community through her involvement in numerous committees and initiatives. Her leadership extends across various sectors, including housing, economic development, healthcare, and regional collaboration.
Notable achievements during her tenure include the creation of the Smoky River Regional Water and Waste Commission in 2003, the completion of the Falher Regional Recreation Complex in 2008, and the regionalization of the Smoky River Fire Department in 2015. Donna also played a key role in the successful celebrations of Falher’s Centenary in 2019 and was recently honoured with the Minister’s Award for Transportation Innovation for the Smoky River Transportation Program.
“It is my honour and pleasure to recognize these outstanding individuals at Alberta Municipalities’ Convention in Red Deer,” said President Tyler Gandam`. “Communities can only succeed when they are supported by dedicated professionals who are committed to the residents they serve. It is by recognizing these people that we express our gratitude and show our appreciation for what they do every day to make our communities thrive.”
The Alberta Municipalities Award of Excellence is given to elected officials who have held office for at least four years and have demonstrated exceptional leadership in municipal governance. This year, Donna shares the honour with two other distinguished recipients: Anna Underwood from the Town of Wembley and Ralph Leriger from the Town of Westlock.
The Town of Falher is incredibly proud of Mayor Buchinski’s accomplishments and this well-deserved recognition. Her unwavering commitment to the community has made Falher a better place to live, work, and thrive. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Mayor Donna Buchinski on receiving this prestigious award.
