October 2026 – Sept 2027 NEW Recycling Calendar

Starting April 1, 2025 communities have begun the transition of their recycling programs to the new extended producer responsibility framework under Alberta’s Extended Producer Regulation.

This change marks a significant shift in how recycling programs will be managed, placing more responsibility on producers to ensure effective recycling processes.

As of October 1, 2026, Falher’s recycling program will be managed by Circular Materials, a national not-for-profit organization that is committed to building an efficient and effective recycling system in Alberta.

Curbside Recycling occurs biweekly in Falher on Wednesdays. This new model for collection began on October 14th, 2026.

Besides flattened cardboard, curbside recycling items must be placed in blue bags.

You can recycle the following items with our curbside program:

  • Newsprint/Heavy paper: newspaper, magazines, phone books, catalogues, flyers
  • Mixed Paper: office paper, junk mail, shredded paper, etc.
  • Boxboard: cereal boxes, pasta boxes, etc.
  • Cartons: Molasses, Sugar, Laundry, Soup, Sauces, etc
  • Corrugated cardboard: flattened and folded beneath blue bag. Keep bundle of cardboard to 2 feet by 3 feet in size
  • Plastic Containers: laundry detergent, household cleaners, shampoo, food & bakery containers, etc
  • Flexible Plastic Packaging: dry cleaning, bread, overwrap (paper towel), chip bags, bubble wrap, etc.
  • Foam Packaging: Meat trays, takeout containers, etc.
  • Metal: food cans, metal lids, candles, etc
  • Aluminum (foils & trays): foil, pir plates, frozen food trays, etc
  • Aerosol Containers: food spray, whipping cream, hairspray etc.
  • Glass Containers: Clear and coloured glass. Foop containers, jars and bottles. Cosmetic containers, spice bottles, oil and vinegar bottles.

When using the Blue Bag Program please remember:

  • Include only approved items.
  • Rinse all containers.
  • All boxes must be collapsed.
