Town of Falher COVID 19 Support for Property Taxes and Utility Accounts

In light of the impact of the COVID19 Pandemic, the Falher Town Council has taken steps to support any rate payer which has been adversely affected by the Pandemic. 

For all non-residential properties in the Town of Falher, the education tax shall be deferred until the 30th of September, 2020, as mandated by the Province.   Non-residential properties will be required to pay the municipal property tax by the 30th of June, 2020.

 

For non-residential properties that are still experiencing financial difficulty as a direct result of the Pandemic, the Town of Falher will work with them on an individual basis.  In addition to the deferral of the education property tax deferral, the Town of Falher will:

  • Void penalty for six months
  • Provides flexible payment plans for education property taxes not paid by September 30th
  • Set-up on a monthly payment plan if on annual
  • If on a monthly plan; defer payments for 3 months; and recalculate their balance over the remainder of the year.
  • If still not feasible; penalty would be applied at the end of December 31, 2020 on the outstanding balance. Recalculate their balance over an 18 month period ensuring all taxes are paid in full by December 31, 2021.

 

For residential properties, the Town of Falher will work with them on an individual basis, and take the following steps:

  • Void penalty for six months
  • Set-up on a monthly payment plan if on annual
  • If on a monthly plan; defer payments for 3 months; and recalculate their balance over the remainder of the year.
  • If still not feasible; penalty would be applied at the end of December 31, 2020 on the outstanding balance.
  • Recalculate their balance over an 18 month period ensuring all taxes are paid in full by December 31, 2021.

 

As for Town of Falher Utility Bills, the Falher Town Council has made the following provisions:

 

The Town of Falher will work with rate payers on an individual basis.  In order for rate payers to qualify, they must meet the following criteria:

  • have been diagnosed with COVID-19
  • have been directed by health authorities to self-isolate
  • have lost your job due to COVID-19
  • are taking care of a family member with COVID-19

 

The following steps will be taken:

  • Defer bill payments for the next 90 days to ensure water utility will not be shut off;
  • Waive penalties for 90 days as well;
  • Calculate balance at the end of 90 days and distribute over the balance of the year with the remaining utility bills; and
  • For residences that are rental properties, they will be referred to their landlord for approval.
